Upleadon Village Hall News

In November John Slack gave a very enjoyable slideshow about his visit to China. During this visit he went to a number of different places including the Great Wall of China, stayed in a variety of hotels and ate a range of local food. It was fascinating to hear a personal account of the China of 20 years ago in the early stages of its modernization when most people used bicycles and China was not yet the economic giant that it is now. Thanks to John Slack for arranging this talk and to everyone for coming along.

In December the Annual Christmas Supper was attended by 64 people: a full house! The excellent main course (a pork and turkey Christmas meal) was supplied by the Traveller’s Rest. Members of the village hall committee provided a range of superb home-made desserts including: pavlovas, cheesecake, a chocolate bombe, suet puddings, apple pie, rum trifle and raspberry mousse. These were followed by cheese and biscuits, coffee and after dinner mints. At the end of the meal there was a raffle (with some fine prizes) and the 100 Club draw was made.

The winners of the 100 Club Draw were:

1st No. 23 S and D Smith £150

2nd No. 13 Vic Arnold £100

3rd No. 98 Helen Murphy £ 50

All in all it was great fun. Thanks to everyone (including those who did the washing up) who helped to make the evening such a success.
